National Short Term Outlook

  • Snow to develop over parts of the Northwest and Central Rockies.
  • Heavy rain over Middle Mississippi Valley.
  • Snow to develop over parts of Upper Midwest on Tuesday.

Low pressure over Southeastern Canada and the Northeast will move into the Canadian Maritimes and the associated front moves off the East Coast by Monday evening. The system will produce snow showers over the Great Lakes and rain over parts of the Northeast to the Mid-Atlantic on Monday. Snow showers will develop over the Northeast ending by Tuesday morning. The snow will produce hazardous driving conditions.

Meanwhile, a complicated front will move eastward from the Northern Rockies to the Middle Mississippi Valley by Wednesday. The storm will produce snow and rain over parts of the Central Rockies and Southern High Plains on Monday. Snow and rain will develop over parts of the Upper Midwest overnight Monday. On Tuesday, rain will develop over parts of the Central/Southern Plains as showers and thunderstorms develop over parts of the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley. Rain and snow will continue over parts of the Upper Midwest through Tuesday evening. The precipitation will change over to all rain overnight Tuesday. Again, the snow will produce hazardous driving conditions.

In the meantime, a dying front over the Pacific Northwest will aid in producing rain and higher elevation snow over the area. Snow will also develop over parts of the Northern Intermountain Region. On Tuesday the snow will wane a bit but another front will come onshore over the Northwest as the rain and higher elevation snow picks up again. By Wednesday morning snow returns to the Northern Intermountain Region. Drivers will need to use caution as the snow makes driving conditions hazardous.
