National Short Term Outlook
Much cooler temperatures push into the Central/Southern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley on Thursday then into the eastern U.S. Friday and Saturday. A cold front will continue descending through the Southern Plains today. This front will produce rain and scattered to isolated thunderstorms across parts of eastern Texas and the ArkLaTex region. It will also bring much cooler temperatures to a significant portion of the central U.S. today with high temperatures 20 to 30 degrees cooler from the Upper Mississippi Valley and into the Central to Southern Plains compared to high temperatures on Wednesday. This strong front will continue to push into the eastern U.S. today, bringing much cooler temperatures to points east of the Mississippi river Friday into Saturday.
Much above average temperatures will persist from the Southwest into California along with a continued fire weather threat. No let up in sight regarding the above average temperature pattern from the Southwest into California for the end of the week and continuing into the weekend. These hot temperatures, low relative humidity and gusty winds will keep the fire weather threat Elevated to Critical across much of California through the end of this week.
Relatively dry pattern across the nation for the next two days. Increasingly wet from New England to the coastal Mid-Atlantic, and across the Northern Rockies and Upper Midwest/Great Lakes late Friday into Saturday morning. The overall weather pattern for the nation is a relatively dry one over the next two days. The strong front moving south and east from the mid section of the nation will have generally light precipitation amounts associated with it through Friday. By the end of Friday, this front may begin to produce more substantial wet weather from the coastal Mid-Atlantic, northward into New England as an area of low pressure develops along this front. The chance of precipitation increases late Friday for the Northern Rockies into the Northern High Plains with snow possible for the far northern Montana Rockies. Wintry weather may spread eastward across the Northern Plains and into the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes by Saturday morning as the low pressure system emerging from the Northern Rockies deepens.

Strack & VanTil Team offer a helping hand at the Habitat for Humanity Lake Station Build Site
Sunset Christian Church offers a hand at the Habitat for Humanity NWI Lake Station Build Site

Gary, Indiana October 1, 2020 โ Majestic Star Casino partnered with Habitat for Humanity of NW Indiana to build walls for a new home being built for the Best Family in Gary, Indiana. Majestic Star Casino provided a volunteer group of 24 to build all 32 interior and exterior walls as well as funds to cover materials. All the walls were built on the old casino property in Buffington Harbor.
โThe work done by Habitat makes such a difference in the lives of those they serve, and Iโm pleased to play a small part in that. Through our Spectacle ALL-IN program, the team at Majestic Star Casino is excited to pitch in and help Shakira Bestโs family become homeowners at the “Field of Dreams” project in Gary. Itโs a humbling and fulfilling experience for all of us,โ stated Rich Zeigler, Vice President of Development for Spectacle Entertainment and a Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana board member.
Shakira Best and her family will move into a neighborhood called โField of Dreamsโ. This beautiful, two block section of Gary is nearly entirely comprised of Habitat homes. The first Habitat home in the โField of Dreamsโ broke ground in 2004.

Indiana Moves to Stage 5 of Back on Track Indiana (Covid-19 Response)
Under this adjusted Stage 5, face coverings remain required.
Organizers of events with more than 500 people in attendance will be required to submit a plan to the local health department that outlines measures to mitigate COVID-19.
Restaurants and bars that serve food may open at full capacity as long as six feet of space to maintain social distancing is in place. Customers must be seated at a table or counter.
Indoor and outdoor venues may open at full capacity with social distancing measures in place. Senior centers and congregate meal sites may open with precautions. Personal services and gyms and fitness centers may resume normal operations with social distancing safeguards and cleaning protocols in place.
Details and guidance are updated at BackOnTrack.in.gov and in Executive Order 20-43.
I also signed an executive order extending the public health emergency an additional 30 days.
The executive orders can be found here: https://www.in.gov/gov/2384.htm
