Gary, Indiana February 24, 2020 – Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana and Thrivent have partnered together with local churches and Thrivent members in Northwest Indiana to make a difference for a local family. Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana has been awarded $70,000 from Thrivent as part of the long-standing national partnership between Habitat and Thrivent, which helps families achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable housing.
Locally, Habitat and Thrivent will partner on the construction of a home for the Harris family in Gary alongside multiple local churches in a Habitat and Thrivent Faith Builds. Over 80 of these home build projects will take place across the US.
Gina Aguilar, Thrivent Financial Associate for the Lakeshore Group Office of William P Maar said, “It’s a privilege to work closely with the team at Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana to make this Faith Build come to life. As a Financial Professional, I work with families every day who are looking to express generosity in different ways in our community and it’s exciting that this Faith Build is in our own backyard. At Thrivent, we believe in empowering families, churches and businesses to build up our own community and working with Habitat for Humanity and community stakeholders to accomplish this goal is a home run! I’m eager to start the build and to see the community engage with this incredible opportunity.”
Habitat and Thrivent Faith Builds improve communities by helping Habitat build homes in partnership with Christian churches and families in need of decent, affordable housing in the US. Thrivent has committed to partner with Habitat, future homeowner families, Christian churches, and volunteers across the US and around the world on different housing projects.
Since the national partnership’s inception in 2005 Thrivent and its members have contributed more than $252 million and more than 5.5 million volunteer hours in the U.S. and around the world to help thousands of families and individuals build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
Dawn Michaels, Habitat’s Executive Director shared, “Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana is honored to be chosen as one of 80 Habitat affiliates across the country to receive this extremely generous ‘Thrivent Faith Build Grant’. The grant focuses on involving area churches in prayer for the project, providing lunches, volunteer days, as well as an opportunity to match Thrivent’s generous financial gift. We are excited to not only build a home for our Faith Build partner family, but to build relationships with local churches as well.”
Thrivent remains the largest non-governmental supporter of Habitat for Humanity International.
