A Wind Chill Warning is in effect from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning for all of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. Potentially life threatening cold with wind chills of 30 to 55 below zero are expected. Tuesday a 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after noon. Areas of blowing snow after noon. Mostly sunny through mid morning, then becoming cloudy and cold, with a high near 4. Wind chill values as low as -19. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

A deep upper-level low over the Upper Midwest will move northeastward into Eastern Canada by Thursday. The system will produce snow and lake enhanced snow over the Great Lakes through Wednesday night. Rain and snow will develop along the associated front from the Mid-Atlantic southwestward to the Central Gulf Coast that will move eastward off the East Coast by Wednesday afternoon. In addition, snow will expand into parts of the Northeast on Tuesday, ending over most of the Northeast by Thursday. Snow showers will linger over parts of the Central/Southern Appalachians on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, very cold high pressure over South-Central Canada will move southeastward to the Western Ohio Valley by Thursday. The high will bring air that is 20 to 40 degrees below average temperatures that will also bring dangerous wind chills over most of the Mid-West into the Ohio Valley through Thursday.
