Weather Update January 28 – Freezing Rain then Blowing and Drifting Snow. Snow 1-2″. Windchill Advisory Starting Tuesday into the Remainder of the Week.

A burst of snow with strong winds will cause hazardous travel conditions through the commute, with under 1/4 mile visibility at times in open areas due to snow and blowing snow. Snow amounts of up to 1″, locally as high as 2″ are possible. In addition, the snow will fall on top of some freezing rain that occurred in and near the city of Chicago. Freezing drizzle is possible on the leading edge of the precipitation in northwest Indiana, followed by a transition to snow. Dangerous wind chills expected Tuesday, with a Wind Chill Advisory in effect Tuesday morning through late Tuesday afternoon.

A Wind Chill Warning is in effect from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning for all of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. Potentially life threatening cold with wind chills of 30 to 55 below zero are expected.
