Weather Update for Friday July 20, 2018. Hazardous Conditions on Lake Michigan and Chance of Rain and Thunderstorms Increasing Through Weekend

A low front will park in the area and cause some turbulent weather in the Chicago area and hazardous conditions on Lake Michigan over  the next three days.

Today,  mostly cloudy starting out with a high chance of  rain and thunderstorms turning into likely rain and thunderstorms around the noon hour. We will reach a high today of 77 in the beautiful downtown Highland area, 74 near the lake and 81 as you travel inland. The wind be out of the southwest at 10-15 mph with gusts clocking in at 25-30 mph. There will be a 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms today with new rainfall amounts of up to an inch in most areas.

Friday night, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 67. West southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20-30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

So you thought you were going to take a three day weekend and head out to the beach today or go out on the boat. Think again cupcake. There will be a high probability of lightning in the NWI area and Lake Michigan will be rocking and rolling.

There will be marine warnings out for most of Lake Michigan on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Winds on the lake will reach up to 20 kt and waves up to 8 feet.

Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 75. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday Night a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 68. North wind around 10 mph.
Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
It will be a rocky weekend starting Friday. It may be a good time to catch up on those episodes on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Or consider other indoor activities.
Please monitor the conditions on the lake if you must go out. There will be roller coaster type conditions out there.
