A slow moving storm system is likely to impact the weather through the weekend. For today, a frontal boundary over central IL early this morning is expected to ease northward towards the I-80 corridor through the day. The main impact from this front will be the sharp contrast in temperatures from north to south. with mainly 40s and 50s expected to the north and 60s and 70s south. There will also be increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms later today, but more likely tonight into Saturday. Some heavy rainfall may also accompany these storms tonight. Northeast winds will also become gusty up to around 40 mph late tonight into Saturday. Finally, the precipitation looks to end as a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow late Sunday and Sunday night.

Although the forecast for the weekend looks bleak, the forecast for Monday and Tuesday have improved. Although still cold, the weather front should move out. We will have a chance for clear skies on Monday with temperatures improving. On Tuesday, the sun will be in fool force with temperatures recovering to the high 50s and possibly 60.
