A reinforcing shot of colder air arriving today will bring snow showers at times to northeast and eastern Illinois and northwest Indiana, with occasional lake effect snow showers into mainly Porter County. The heaviest snow showers will result in occasional low visibility, which looks to be the main travel impact. Breezy north-northwest winds could further aid in reducing the visibility in falling snow. Temperatures will be in the 30s during the snow, so light accumulations, if any, will likely be limited to grassy/colder surfaces. The prime time for northeast and eastern Illinois and northwest Indiana outside of lake effect snow showers into Porter County appears to be from about mid-day through the afternoon hours. Flurries and perhaps brief snow showers could occur area wide outside of the possibly more focused snow shower activity.
So today is going to be in the crapper meteorologically speaking especially for our friends in Porter County which has a good chance of lake effect snow. Then for some the day may head south metaphorically speaking. All we can say is suck it up buttercup. The sun will soon be here to stay up to the weekend. It may even warm a bit the closer we get to Sunday. From where we stand, it looks like we will be having some nice days as a high pressure area moves in.
