Weather Update for Monday, January 22, 2018 – Early morning fog and rain continues into Monday
Showers and thunderstorms increase into Monday morning. Fog in the early morning. Not exactly a sunny week, but we will take it because the average temperature will be above normal for this time of year staying near or above freezing until the weekend. As normal as normal can be for this area. It’s like saying cousin Eddie is normal. Maybe in this area not so much, but elsewhere, he would fit right in. Most of you are probably getting bored with the use of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation characters as much as we are using them. We will move on to another cult classic. Perhaps we will go romantic/comedy like The Terminator as we move into spring.
Showers and thunderstorms will develop tonight and continue into Monday morning. Some of the thunderstorms will produce heavy downpours, with locally heavy rainfall possible tonight. Rainfall totals of 1 to 1.5″ are currently expected over much of northern IL, which given the frozen ground could result in mostly minor flooding of low lying and flood prone areas. In addition, the runoff will likely result in rises on area rivers and streams, with some minor flooding possibly developing on some of the main stem rivers.
