Weather for Thursday, January 4, 2018 Windchill Advisory in Effect Today. Dangerously Low Windchill -14 below.
The bitterly cold weather will continue through the rest of the work week and to start the weekend. Lake effect snow showers will affect parts of northern Indiana into southwest Michigan through at least Thursday night. While uncertainty remains in the snow accumulation forecast, several inches are possible from northeastern Porter County eastward into southwest Michigan. I know some of you like it when we say that we are uncertain. We are always uncertain. Who are we fooling. Like you are sitting there all perfect and stuff. Give me a break pal. Looking ahead to the weekend, our best shot at temperatures near or even slightly above freezing will be on Sunday. Don’t bust out the shorts and sleeveless t-shirts you got for Christmas. We will be getting warm enough so that your skin will not crystalize and fall off. Not exactly a heat wave but a nice break of 30 degree weather with windchill well above 0 will start on Monday. Please continue to exercise pet safety during this time. Let them out just long enough to do their business. If you have booties for your furry buddy put them on. Paw pads are very sensitive at these temperatures and can suffer frostbite as well.
Wind chill is how the wind and cold feel on exposed skin. The colder the temperature and stronger the wind, the quicker frostbite could set in on exposed skin.
