Weekend Weather Update for Sunday, December 31, 2017 Windchill/Randy Advisory in Effect
Bitterly cold weather will remain with us through the start of 2018. Later New Year’s Eve evening through the morning of New Year’s Day will feature the coldest temperatures and wind chills of this stretch, with daily record cold temperatures being threatened at Chicago and Rockford. Avoid spending prolonged time outdoors if possible, but whenever going outside, dress in layers, hat and gloves, covering exposed skin to avoid frostbite. Be like Randy, except we hope you can mover your arms. Bring pets indoors. Our fury friends should not be out any longer then it takes them to do their business. If you have boots for your fury friends, please use them. Regarding snow potential, it’s overall low for most of the area, with some light snow or flurries possible tonight into early Saturday. The lake effect snow potential on Sunday remains lower confidence, with Porter County still more favored to have a period of snow, though it still can’t be ruled out near the lake in Illinois and into Lake County Indiana.
Chicago – While cold now, even colder air is arriving for New Year’s Eve night into New Year’s Day. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana including the Chicago area during that time. Here is a look at hourly forecast temperatures and wind chills.
